Business Builders

From Fellow CWAHMS

* Here are two of my Business Builders. I'm getting some traffic from these two types of advertising. I put an ad on a restaurant placemats. I noticed when my husband and I were out for breakfast I found myself reading all the ads on the placemats. Their website is www.myplacematads.com

I often buy and sell on eBay. I put an invitation to visit my website in with my payment or in with the item that was bought. I have a friend who is a PowerSeller on EBay and she also sends these invitations out for me.

The Missing Element in Success – Self-Discipline
by Terri Pilcher

“I’m mentoring several women right now who make good money. They’ve been in their industries for years and years. They should be better off than they are, but they haven’t gotten the financial area of their life under control. I know people who make over $100,000 a year and have nothing to show for it,” says Lindy Ford, an actress, real estate rehabber, and nutritionist.

Money isn’t the definition of success. Workaholics often end up divorced or with kids who hate them, because they’ve neglected their families. We all know people with more money than us who look miserable most of the time. “Success is about integrating. It’s about balance. I don’t see many people living like this, Christian or not,” Lindy explains. “My big philosophy is that we are integrated human beings and every area helps every other area. My spirit is better if my emotions are right and my physical life is right.”

When she was in her twenties, she often felt tired and emotionally drained. She changed her diet to one with fewer refined carbohydrates (white rice, white flour, white sugar, etc…). “Don’t feel sorry for me,” she says in her “A Busy to A Beautiful Life” DVD on improving your nutrition, “I ate a great Mediterranean meal last night. I’m not deprived just because I eat healthy.” A healthy diet is just one aspect of living a balanced life.

“I live in freedom. I live in emotional, physical, and spiritual freedom. I don’t find that most people do,” says Lindy. That’s probably because most of us don’t want to discipline ourselves. I know it’s a struggle for me.

It’s not easy for women who are disciplined, either. Successful, balanced women like Lindy admit, “These are tough choices. I’d rather eat what I want whenever I want to. Not preparing meals is the easy way. All of this takes work. It takes pushing through feelings, but good feelings come afterwards.”

“This morning, I woke up and I didn’t want to exercise. I did it anyway. I probably didn’t do it as vigorously as I could have, but I did it. I think that’s a big key to being a successful person. No matter what it is, you have to manage yourself first,” she says.

Lindy has broken life into three basic areas that must stay in balance: spiritual, emotional, and physical (includes finances).

“Spiritually, I want to regularly cultivate a vibrant relationship with God and teach others to do that.

“Emotionally I want to cultivate good relationships with others. If you don’t cultivate a good marriage or a good relationship with your children, then none of this really matters.

“Physically, I exercise regularly, eat very healthy, and take a lot of supplements. I have incredible health and a ton of energy. I live in financial freedom. I always wanted to have enough money that I didn’t have to worry about it and be able to give to other people,” she says.

Don’t think that just because Lindy has goals and strives to maintain a balanced life that she’s a modern-day icon of the woman in Proverbs 31. “I’m not perfect,” she says, “Perfection you need to literally throw out the window. You have to keep growing with it. I’ve had these principles for years, but I have to keep applying and rededicating myself to it every day. “

Lindy’s candid about her flaws in her “A Busy to a Beautiful Life” DVD teaching series based on Proverbs 31. Creating a Bible Study curriculum based on the balanced life of the Virtuous Woman was “a God thing”. It wasn’t something Lindy had planned to create, but she knew it was something women needed.

“The study takes ancient principles and applies them to today. It’s a woman who goes out and buys property. She’s very savvy, but she’s kind and generous at the same time. There’s balance in her life. She lives in freedom,” explains Lindy. Instead of teaching women to see the ideal of this biblical woman as an unattainable goal the way some teachers do, she shows them that the woman is disciplined and balanced, an example of a balanced and successful life.

According to Lindy, living with discipline takes you farther and gives you a happier life. You could almost say that she’s addicted to a life of freedom. “I will never stop living like this,” she says.

Featured Recipe

Chicken Stir Fry

1 cup uncooked rice
1 small chopped onion
1 egg, beaten
1 chicken breast, cut into bite-sized chunks
1/2 cup frozen peas
4 carrots, diced
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. sugar
3 tbsp. oil (sesame oil is best, but plain vegetable oil works as well)

Cook rice according to package directions. In a wok or large frying pan, heat 1 tbsp. oil, scramble the egg, and remove to a dish. Heat the rest of the oil and brown the onion and rice. Add chicken and stir until the chicken is no longer pink. Pour warm water over the peas just until the ice around them dissolves. Add peas, carrots, egg, soy sauce and sugar to the rice and stir until well blended. Cook another five to ten minutes, or until carrots are tender. This recipe cooks up in about a half hour and is both healthy and delicious. You can also substitute shrimp, beef or pork for the chicken.

Featured Craft
Play Clay Hearts

You'll love this two-in-one project: a highly original valentine that moonlights as a usable ball of clay.

MATERIALS:
3 Cups of white flour
1 1/2 Cups of salt
1 1/2 Tablespoons of cream of tartar
3 1/4 Cups of water
6 Tablespoons of vegetable oil
Red food coloring
Rolling pin
Heart-shaped cookie cutter
Small cellophane bags
Scissors
White paper
Markers
Hole punch
Ribbon

Time needed:
  Under 1 Hour

1. Mix the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a medium saucepan.

2. In a separate bowl, mix the liquids, adding drops of food coloring until you reach your desired shade.

3. Pour the liquid over the dry ingredients and stir. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture holds together and gets too stiff to stir (it will stiffen even more as it cools), about 5 to 10 minutes. Let it cool.

4. Knead the clay briefly, then roll or pat it to a 3/4-inch thickness and cut with the cookie cutter.

5. For each valentine, place a clay heart in a cellophane bag. Cut a tag out of white paper, decorate it with markers, and punch a hole in one end. Thread a length of ribbon through the tags hole and tie the bag shut with a bow.

Tips:
An older child can make the play clay (with adult supervision) while a younger one makes the tags. Then both children can roll and cut the clay hearts and bag their own valentines.

Featured Book

I LOVE to read!
Each week you'll find a new Christian book here!

Truffles by the Sea
by Julie Carobini

I liked Julie Carobini’s first novel, Chocolate Beach, but her sophomore release, Truffles By The Sea, greatly surpasses it. I thoroughly enjoyed Carobini’s second book and felt her writing was much stronger throughout. The characters are deeper and yet funnier – a great combination.

Readers met Gaby Flores, in Chocolate Beach, but she takes center stage this time around. The story begins as Gaby moves in to a new apartment (by the sea). She’s had a rough year. She’s lost her apartment in a fire, her business in floundering due to a thieving former employee and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Gaby isn’t sure how much more she can take.

The downward spiral that is Gaby’s life continues when Gaby is faced with a lawsuit. Top that with the aging of her mother and her new “helpful” neighbors and Gaby is ready to throw in the towel. Gaby is determined to make the best of what she has left, but how much will she have to lose before things turn around? Can she ever get her life back together or will she call it quits – in business and in love?

Truffles By The Sea will be released in February 2008. It’s a great read for a cold winter day – you can curl up with the book, a nice fire and pretend you’re the one by the sea.
