Last week I
asked for some Valentine's Day ideas that
you use with your family. I thought I'd
share one of the responses this week:
"I
always give my kids a little valentine gift
and make each of them a small heart shaped
cake but my favorite valentine surprise
is to make strands of hearts and hang them
in their doorways on Valentine's Day. On
the hearts I write words or phrases that
are personal to each child, such as "great
gymnast", "my favorite 2nd grader",
"creative artist", "thoughtful
sister", etc., etc.
I use a piece of curling ribbon and cut
it to the length of the doorway then cut
and write on hearts and use double sided
tape to adhere them. I do put two hearts
back to back with the ribbon running between
them. Make one strand or fill the doorway!
Have a Great Valentine's Day!"

I'd love to hear what special things you
do for your family - or what they've done
for you! :)
Blessings
in Christ,
Jill

Networking for Success and Sanity |
If you have been online looking at your options to work at home, you have probably come across several sites, forums, and online bulletin boards where you can meet and talk with other women all over the world! When you work at home by yourself, this is a lifeline to learning and friendship. Networking online with other moms on message boards is very easy! Find a forum that you like, register an account and post an introduction message right away. Let the other moms know where you are from and what you want to accomplish with working at home. Everyone’s got different things they bring to the discussion. You’ll meet women who can provide you with advice on how to start a business, information on a wide variety of subjects, favorite resources, and they will be more than happy to lend an ear when you need to complain about a bad day. Most of these sites have somewhere that you can list your business and tell a little about what you do. Visit the different websites – eventually you will find a few work at home moms that have businesses similar to the type you would like to start. Most people would be glad to answer your questions…we all like to talk about what we enjoy and do! Keep reading and replying to posts regularly; you will find that people have questions about things you are an ‘expert’ in. By building relationships and establishing credibility, people will come to you when they have a need for the product or service you provide. Develop a little sign-off for your own posts, called a “sig file,” which gives a summary of what benefits or services you offer. Include your website URL if you have one so readers can find out more. This is a great benefit of networking online. Seek out the services of other home based moms when you need help with something. If you have done business with a certain mom, recommend her services to others when they need them! Your work at home friend will appreciate your help and will recommend your services to other people. Eventually, someone new to the work-at-home-mom community will seek you out and ask for your advice on how to get started. Take them under your wing and show them a few helpful pointers. You may not be able to pay back all of the mothers who have helped you with your business, but you can definitely pay it forward by helping others! The beauty of the internet is all the terrific people you can meet with common interests and even differences. It’s the tapestry of all the women that makes up the community and we all have a lot to learn from each other. Just because you work at home by yourself doesn’t mean you’re alone. There’s a rich resource pool out there waiting for you to tap into it, and to contribute. Take time this week to plug in!

Book
I
LOVE to read! Each week you'll find
a new Christian book here! |
Out
of Control, Finding Peace for the Physically
Exhausted and Spiritually Strung Out
by Ben Young
and Dr. Samuel Adams
"Most of us are overcommitted
with jobs, families and activities. Ben
Young and Dr. Samuel Adams point out in
their book Out of Control, Finding Peace
for the Physically Exhausted and Spiritually
Strung Out that as we continue to fill our
schedules with all our activities, there
is less and less time for rest, relaxation,
and renewal.
Too many of us look at being
busy as a status symbol. We believe the
lie if we’re busy, we must be important.
But the authors point out that “God
loves and values us as His unique children
not for anything we’ve done, but because
of who we are.” We have value just
because of who we are: children of God.
The authors go on to help
us understand that rest enhances productivity.
We need rest to be renewed for the work
that is ahead of us. God made Adam and Eve
on the sixth day, on the seventh day he
commanded that they rest. Their work was
ahead of them, yet they needed strength
for their work by resting first. We all
require rest to accomplish the tasks set
before us.
The authors don’t
just move us to think like they do, but
they give us a plan of action to carry out
their advice, including changing our priorities
(they show us how) and turning off the constant
flow of technology around us once in a while.
I read this book as a favor
for a friend, I now carry with me the wisdom
and knowledge I gained to grasp a semblance
of control for my own life and my family’s
as well.
Even if you are marooned
on an island, with a soccer ball as your
lone companion, Ben Young and Dr. Samuel
Adams have written a book everyone can benefit
from."
