It's
Valentine's Day! I hope you are all feeling
God's love as well as showing love to those
around you. I thought I'd share another
reader response to my V-day request:
"Traditions
are the "We all" of family. "We
always sleep under the Christmas tree lights
in December. We always get together with
cousins for Thanksgiving." Does this
sound like your family? Are there special
memories you have of those holidays? Most
families only focus on holiday traditions
during November and December. I challenge
you to think outside the box. The power
of one tradition a month has a profound
affect on strengthening family ties throughout
the year. This February, begin the "Hearts
of Loving Kindness" tradition with
your family.
Every time we see our children doing something
extra special, or demonstrating a character
quality where they are going "above
and beyond," we write it on our paper
hearts, and hang them from the doorway.
The key to building family unity through
this idea, is to make sure siblings are
catching the vision of blessings their brothers
or sisters. Encourage them to look for ways
their siblings have showed loving kindness
to themselves and others. With this tradition,
we focus on the character, rather than the
activity. For example, instead of writing,
"Matthew did on a great job in his
basketball game." we would write, "Matthew
did an amazing job in showing perseverance.
Even when his team was losing, he didn't
give up."
It brings such joy to see the children uplifting
the positive qualities in others, rather
than always "tattling" about the
negative ones. If this is something new
to your family, and the kids need an extra
incentive, decorate a mason jar and every
time they "bless" one another,
add a few coins to the jar. At the end of
February, use that money for a special family
night.
You will be amazed to see your "Hearts
of Loving Kindness" garland growing
as the month progresses. This tradition
works wonderfully with just spouses, or
one child as well. As we bless others with
encouraging words, our attitudes are blessed
as well.
Focusing on Who God made us, and instilling
that in our children at an early age is
so key in developing a healthy and secure
self image.
Why don't your begin seeing the power of
one tradition a month work in your family?
February is wonderful time to begin."

Business
Builders
From Fellow CWAHMS |
*
A friend of mine recommended sending out
a monthly e-newsletter to customers and
friends. I started doing my newsletter last
January (2006). I sell children's books,
so I include new releases, sales, upcoming
events and tips on reading. I've also started
to include information and links to other
interesting mom-owned businesses that I
think my customers will enjoy. Doing this
newsletter is a great way to keep me on
track and focused, it keeps me in regular
contact with my customers, creates community
and, by encouraging folks to share my newsletter
with friends, I've expanded my customer
base to people I never would have had the
opportunity to meet!

Four Ways to Save Time When Working From Home |
Do you ever feel like twenty-four
hours in a day isn’t enough? I frequently
find myself wishing that I had an extra
hour or two each day to get done all of
the things on my task list. With small children
still at home, I am constantly getting distracted
from my home-based business to attend to
their needs. It has become imperative to
use the time that I have to work efficiently.
I have found a few ways to use my work time
more effectively and I’m willing to
share a few of my secrets with you.
First, don’t answer
the phone every time it rings. If your phone
rings constantly while you are trying to
work, let your answering machine act as
your personal assistant. Check you Caller
ID and if you don’t recognize the
number or know that you can return the call
at a later time, let the caller leave a
message.
Schedule a time each day
or every other day that you will set aside
to return phone calls. Try to keep each
phone call short if possible, so that you
are able to return all calls. Whenever possible,
offer to email the person any requested
information to save time rifling through
paperwork or searching your office.
Second, use your email program
wisely. Set up a spam filter so that you
won’t have to dredge through useless
emails each day. Use the folders, labels
and other tools provided to file your emails
in a way that works for you. I set up a
folder for each common type of email that
comes through – payments, forms, correspondence,
etc – and file each email that I receive.
This keeps my inbox tidy and allows me to
easily find emails when I am ready to handle
it. Also, when I’m working on a project
for my business I close my email program.
This keeps me focused on the project at
hand.
Another email shortcut that
I use is to mark important emails with a
flag or star depending on the email program.
I use this only for emails that require
a response. I read through my emails each
morning and sort, flag and delete as necessary.
When I go back through my email later in
the day I go to the marked emails first
and respond to as many as possible. I then
move through the folders and take care of
any emails that are awaiting.
Third, organize your office.
Keep the top of your desk neat and take
the time every few weeks to go through your
drawers and files and clean them out. Throw
away the paperwork that you no longer need
and find a new home for any useless items
that have collected there. I keep a business
card holder on my desk to use as a quick
reference when I need someone’s contact
information. I also use a letter hold to
keep track of bills and a set of bookends
to keep my reference books handy.
If you are a sticky-note
fanatic like me take a moment at the end
of each day and transfer your notes to your
calendar or planner. The more sticky notes
you can eliminate each evening, the more
time you’ll have to accomplish important
tasks the next morning.
Finally, if your business
has grown to a level where you can no longer
handle all of the necessary tasks on your
own, consider hiring a virtual assistant
(VA). Most virtual assistants will allow
you to hire them hourly per project, so
that you are able to stay within your business’s
budget. Virtual assistants can handle most
any task – from updating your website
to sending out press releases about your
business. One of the best things that I
have done for my business is to hire a VA.
Her help gives me the freedom to work more
efficiently and have time to spend on other
things.
There are many ways to use
your time for effectively when working from
home. Use the tools that you have at your
fingertips to help you get more work done
in less time. Don’t get bogged down
trying to do everything – know when
you need assistance. By keeping yourself
focused on the task at hand you’ll
save more time than you can imagine.

These paper flowers are
beautiful, quick to make, and unlike the
real things, guaranteed to last a long time.

MATERIALS:
Tissue paper
Scissors
Crayons
Pipe cleaners
Time needed:
Under 1 Hour
1. Cut eight 3 1/2-inch
squares out of the tissue paper.
2. Using the side of a crayon,
color along two opposite edges of each square.
3. Place one of the squares
on a flat surface with the uncolored edges
at the top and bottom. Starting at the top,
fold the square as you would a paper fan.
The pleats should be about a half inch wide.
Fold the remaining squares using the same
method.
4. For a stem, bend a pipe
cleaner 1 1/2 inches from an end to form
a hook. Stack the pleated squares (without
unfolding them). Place the stack inside
the hook and twist the hook end around the
stem. Then, to open up the flower to full
bloom, twist the petals a half turn near
the stem.

Book
I
LOVE to read! Each week you'll find
a new Christian book here! |

Passenger's
Side
by John Michael Forosisky
"Passenger's Side helps
one to understand the need to put Jesus
Christ in the driver's seat of their life.
This book is full of real life examples
and advice to help the reader learn how
to take the passenger's seat and allow God
control of life's steering wheel."
- Jill Hart, CWAHM.com
Dear
Jill & CWAHM.COM,
"I
recently discovered your website when
searching the net for books clubs
and the like. About two weeks ago,
after reading your little review of
Passenger's Side, I went to Amazon
and purchased it. I just finished
it this morning.
I
believe this book has changed something
within myself. I learned so much about
what a relationship with the Lord
can really be like. I knew mine wasn't
right, so I guess you could say I
was searching. I believe that seeing
this book on your website, was simply
meant to be. The book was just wonderful.
I have read a handful of Christian
books over the years, but never one
like this. I have already recommended
it to friends. I just can't say enough
about it. It has been a huge blessing!
So
thank you for having it on your site.
I know this book has and will continue
to help me tremendously."
Sincerley,
Stephanie |
