5
Minutes For Mom
Five Ways to
entertain your kids:
#1 - Naptime
- Working while your
child is taking a nap is an easy way to
have the quiet that you’ll need for
phone calls and other important tasks. If
you have more than one child, try setting
a specific time for them to take a nap each
day, so that they will come to expect it.
Even a half hour a day can make a difference
in your workload.
If you have older children
that are home during the day, they too need
quiet time even if they don’t necessarily
sleep. It is good for children to have some
time to themselves. They can play quietly
in their room, read or do another quiet
activity.
Tune in next week for #2!

When you have a customer or new distributor
on the phone, or even a prospect who is
excited about the products or service, ask
them right then, “Right off the top
of your head, if I asked you ‘Who
else do you know who would love to know
about this,” who are the first 3 people
who come to mind?”
You’re going to get
their gut reaction and you’re going
to get them thinking. They’ll give
you 3 names. Then if it’s a new distributor,
say “Great! Let’s talk to them
this week. What’s a good time for
you?” and you can set up some 3-way
calls. If it’s a customer say, “Great!
Since you know they would love this too,
would you mind introducing me?” and
maybe arrange a time to get together at
her house or meet for coffee somewhere.
It’s totally non-pressure,
friend to friend, no big set-up time needed,
just casual word of mouth referral. This
leads to fast and strong duplication if
you teach your whole team. It’s a
great way for even brand new distributors
to keep their pipeline full of new people
to talk to. I’ve seen statistics that
say we each know about 250 people, so you’re
looking to expand your reach to those 250
people that your people know that you don’t…yet!

Telecommuting Idea: Appointment Setter |
Most small business owners
are very busy people who don’t have
a lot of extra time on their hands. They
will happily outsource some of their daily
time-consuming tasks to a telecommuter.
One of these time consuming tasks is setting
appointments. Appointment setting is a perfect
occupation for a telecommuter. The employer
doesn’t necessarily need a full-time
employee to set his appointments, but at
the same time needs someone that is available
the majority of business hours in case his
clients call in, or to make calls at different
times of the day.
A telecommuter is the perfect
candidate for this position. As a telecommuting
appointment setter you can work with your
employer’s schedule. If he needs a
few calls made in the morning and then wants
you to be available for callbacks in the
afternoon, you are there to help. Best of
all, you are not limited to just one employer
or client. You can easily work as an appointment
setter for several business owners at the
same time. This will allow you to make a
fulltime income while allowing each employer
to only pay you for a few hours per day
or week.
Setting appointments is
something you can easily do from home. All
you need is a phone and some way to organize
yourself. A computer with Microsoft Outlook,
or an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of
your clients’ schedules would work
well. You could even do this with a good
paper calendar at first.
You should have good telephone
and written skills to work as an appointment
setter. Previous experience as an administrative
assistant or secretary is not necessary,
but is definitely a plus when it comes to
the skills you need and when you are approaching
prospective employers or clients. You should
also be fairly organized to be able to keep
up with multiple appointments for multiple
clients each day.
As an appointment setter
you will be spending a lot of time both
on the phone and on email. You will be checking
in with your clients (the small business
owners) on a daily basis and then spend
the rest of your time contacting their clients,
setting up and later confirming appointments.
Of course you will also keep your own clients
or employers informed of any changes or
cancellations throughout the day.
If this is something you
are interested in doing, here’s how
to start. Determine your hourly rate. You
should take the going rate for a task like
this in an office setting into consideration
and then up it from there. Your employer
does not have to provide you with an office,
a computer, telephone or any other equipment.
You are also most likely going to be an
independent contractor, which means he does
not have to pay for any of your benefits
or taxes. You will be responsible for all
this, keep that in mind when determining
your rate.
Now it’s time to approach
small business owners in your area with
what you have to offer and start building
a client base. Once you have a few happy
clients, word of mouth advertising should
start to bring you even more business.

Feature
from the Summer
Fiction Giveaway
Veil of Fire
by Marlo Schalesky
HISTORICAL
FIRE PROVIDES BACKDROP FOR MYSTERY
Marlo Schalesky Paints Compelling Word Picture
in VEIL OF FIRE
(NASHVILLE, TENN.) Hinckley, Minnesota is
going up in flames and a mysterious “being”
sets up camp at the edge of town in Marlo
Schalesky’s May 2007 release, VEIL
OF FIRE. Coping with the loss of loved ones
and
belongings is hard enough, but Hinckley
citizens are also encountering a monster.
Or is it a ghost? Something didn’t
burn up in the fire and Hinckley folks aren’t
quite sure if that’s a good thing
or bad.
Marlo Schalesky
uses the facts from the worst firestorm
in Minnesota history—the fire of 1894—
as the backdrop for VEIL OF FIRE. Her lyrical
prose is woven deftly into the harsh reality
of a fire that consumed 400 square
miles and killed 418 people in just four
hours. Hinckley of today still isn’t
sure
what or who the monster was that the fire
left behind. Perhaps, though,
Schalesky’s story can solve that mystery
once and for all.
Schalesky
is the author of four books and a regular
columnist for Power for
Living. She has been published in Focus
on the Family, Decision, Moody
Magazine, Today’s Christian Woman,
Discipleship Journal, and others. In
addition, she was named 2001 Writer of the
Year at the Mount Hermon
Christian Writers' Conference.
Cook Communications
will be launching the “Sizzling Summer
of Fiction”
reading campaign with VEIL OF FIRE and other
summer releases. Fiction
book clubs and reader groups may contact
Schalesky and schedule a time
and date to interact via Internet or conference
call. Downloadable reader’s
guides are available at www.cookministries.com.
A separate “Bring an Author
to Your Book Club” Internet page can
be found at www.cookministries.com/readthis.
