15 Minutes For Mom

Five Reasons Podcasting Might Be Right
For Your Home-based Business: (part 1)

#1 - Reach your niche market

Podcasting has been called the wave of the future. The truth, however, is that podcasting is the here-and-now and is gaining momentum across the world. There are podcasts available for just about any topic you can think of from cooking to video games to religion.

Podcasting can have many uses for the home based business owner. It can be useful not only advertise, but to also communicate your business message. Below are 5 tips on how to use podcasts to benefit your business.

1. Reach your niche market – Depending on your product, podcasting can be the perfect way to reach new groups of people in your market. Believe it or not, there are people out there looking for the product you provide!

Podcasts are quickly becoming a new advertising venue as well. A podcast that is listed in podcasting directories such as iTunes can reach thousands, even millions of listeners. This can be a very inexpensive method for advertisers on a budget.

The popularity of podcasts is a steadily growing trend. Many people who are just beginning to learn about podcasts will search for topics of there interest. This is a great way to reach customers that you would not have been able to reach before the advent of podcasting.

As of February 2006, a Google search for the term “podcast” returns over 205,000,000 results. The amazing reality of this is that it is still, in effect, an untapped market that will continue its growth in the years to come.

Tune in next week!

Business Builders

From Fellow CWAHMS

* The way that I build my business during the summer is to take my product everywhere I go! I am a distributor for a healthy fruit beverage. I take a bottle to the pool to sip on with our snacks. I always take a bottle for people to try at networking events that I go to. I take a bottle to playdates for the kids to share. I take a bottle when I'm invited to a picnic or party, etc - instead of the customary flowers or bottle of wine. It is a great way for people to actually try the product and see if they like it!

If it is not appropriate to actually bring the bottle with me, I wear one of our logo items. For example, I have t-shirts, a charm bracelet, a hat, a more dressy shirt, and also other things like a keychain, a messenger bag, etc, that are all eye catching and have our logo on it. I get a lot of compliments and questions about our product this way too!

* What helps me build my business:

There are many things that will allow you to be successful in your business but these are a few of my top action steps that help me have the success I am having with My Candle Business.

I began with a Solid Foundation. First giving my business to the Lord and then finding a Company that I knew was debt free, growing and offered a quality candle that I could believe in and enjoy sharing with others.

The reason I started a home business was to earn the extra money we need to pay the bills, so of course I need to make sure that the company I choose had the tools, product and support I need to make money both with retail and residual, building a team.

I make sure to have a positive attitude and visualize my goals. When I am positive and knowledgeable about what I am reaching for it attracts those same kind of future business partners. People are attracted to Positive people!

I also make sure to have the "never give up attitude". Yes there are times that business is slower in one area then another but that is when I begin to focus on something different. Ex. when my parties are slower then I focus on Team building or online marketing. I had to step out of my comfort zone and do different aspect in the business that I was not sure I would be able to do. By being flexible to do things I was not comfortable doing has allowed be to a better leader as I was able to help my team partners go through the same step to enjoy the different aspects in running a business!

I was taught early on to support, encourage and build up my own team members. I have found that when I take the time to give a shout out about how great a team partner is doing, it comes back 10 times. Everyone likes to feel good about what they are doing and it build a stronger and more supportive team. So Brag about your team and how they are doing!

These are just a few of my top favorites that I enjoy doing and I feel has allowed me to be Successful with my Simple Home Candle Business!

Advertising Your WAHM Business

In my experience, most work at home moms are like the average solo-professional or small business owner.  They don't have a big marketing budget, so they tend to rely on no-cost and low-cost marketing activities  to promote their work at home business.

But even if you are marketing your WAHM business on a shoestring budget, you may want to consider advertising. Sometimes it is the most direct way to get your message in front of the prospects you are trying to reach.

If you choose to advertise you want to make sure you know what you're doing so you don't waste your valuable marketing dollars.

Here are 3 tips to make sure you get the most out of your advertising.

Tip #1: Write Client-Focused Copy

One of the biggest advertising mistakes I see is copy that doesn't focus on the client. Make sure your ad copy focuses on the problem your potential client has, and how you can solve it.

One tip is to use the word "you" more than you use the words "I" or "we."

Tip #2: Select Your Advertising Venues Carefully

Take some time to research what media your ideal clients are reading, listening to, watching or visiting.
What magazines or newspapers do they read?

What websites do they visit?

What radio or television stations or programs do they listen to or watch?

Select the media that will best reach your ideal clients. This sounds fairly obvious, but you'd be surprised how many business owners advertise in the publications THEY read instead of looking for what their ideal clients are reading.

Tip #3: Follow the 3-10x Rule

You never want to advertise just once. To be effective, advertising requires frequency. Follow the 3-10x rule and plan to run your ad at least three times in a row. If you are advertising in a monthly magazine, that means running your ad in three consecutive issues.

If you can't afford to advertise at least three times (and ideally, more) reconsider your decision to use advertising, because your chances of success go way down.

If you have considered using advertising to market your work at home business, but you weren't sure where to start, you can use these three tips to help you make the most of your advertising budget.

I encourage you to spend some time pretending to be a prospect. Think about where you would go to get information in your product or service category. Research these media outlets and see what it would cost to run at least three ads.

And, don't forget you'll also need to reserve some of your budget to have your ad created. You can ask the publication or media outlet if they can create your ad for you. If they can't, you'll need to find a graphic artist to create your ad. Elance.com is a great resource for this.

Featured Craft
Red, White, and Blue Baton

This festive baton in patriotic colors is the perfect accessory for a holiday party or parade.

MATERIALS:
Acrylic paint
Dowel
Ribbon
Rubber tip

Time needed: Under 1 Hour

1. To make one, first place a 5/8-inch-diameter dowel under your child's arm as shown. Mark where her fingertips reach, then carefully cut the dowel to this length (a job for parents).

2. Paint the dowel with acrylic paint and let it dry.

3. Next, cut eight 2-foot lengths of colorful ribbon. Fold 4 of the ribbon pieces in half over one end of the dowel, then push a 5/8-inch rubber tip (available at hardware stores) onto the dowel to secure the ribbons in place. Repeat at the other end, and your baton is ready to twirl.

Featured Book

I LOVE to read!
Each week you'll find a new Christian book here!

Snitch
by Rene Gutteridge

What do you get when you put together an “almost-retired” cop, a former clown, and a know-it-all? A police task force, of course. Ron Yeager has been working a desk job since being injured a few years prior. When he’s asked to train and lead a special task force, he’s not sure he still has what it takes.

Mackenzie “Mack” Hazard is a clown turned cop who is out to prove herself. Will her outspoken faith deter her from making her way through the ranks? No one, including Mack herself, is sure that she’s ready for this task force. Will she learn the ropes in time or will this be more than she can handle?

And then there’s Jesse Lunden, the cop who’s already seen plenty of task force action. Can he swallow his pride and learn from sergeant Yeager or will his hot head get in the way?

Snitch is the second book in the Occupational Hazard series. The hilarious cast sets the scene for a novel that has it all – mystery, comedy and even a little romance. Gutteridge has a light-hearted way of writing that endears the characters to the reader.

Gutteridge is the author of the Boo series and the Storm series of books as well as a number of other mystery novels. Gutteridge is also a talented screenwriter and has been published many times in that genre as well.
