15
Minutes For Mom
To have a
less stressful day (and to find some much
needed me time) make up a daily schedule.
Include nap times, lunch, dinner, work, etc.
On your daily
schedule write in some 'me' time. Use this
time each day to do something that you like
- read, write, bake, etc.
You'll find
that with a little 'me' time each day you'll
be happier and less stressed!

School has started here and my precious little 5 year old started
kindergarten. She came Monday full of details
and it has been so much fun to see the world
through her eyes. She's already learned
that she loves music and recess and does
NOT love corn dogs. :)
May you all have a great
back to school season!

Being in the direct sales - party plan business
as many of my friends are too. Often times
our calendars aren't where we would like
them to be when it comes to bookings or
maybe your new to the business with no friends
and family to help you out. One of the things
you can do to pick the pace up is swap/trade
a party with another person. This is great
because you are introduced to a whole new
set of people. You are each helping each
other out. I love the direct sales business,
especially the party plan industry, I find
women are always ready to help each other
out with a giving heart.

The success of many of our home based businesses
depends on our ability to both sell our
products or services and grow our business
teams by recruiting others. In both cases
our clients or team members often start
out as complete strangers. We have to be
able to build trust and rapport with these
strangers before we they will consider purchasing
our product/service or joining our business.
There is a proven and time-tested FORMula
for breaking the ice, establishing rapport
and gaining a client. These questions are
just examples, and it is helpful to use
open-ended questions as much as possible:
F – family. Ask your
prospect about their family. How many kids
do they have? What are their ages?
O – occupation. What
do they do for a living? How did they choose
that profession? How long have they done
it? Is there anything about their career
or work life that they want to change?
R – recreation. What
do they like to do for fun? This is a great
question to tie into your business if your
product or service relates to things that
people generally like to do.
M – money. This is
of course the end goal for you and your
prospective business partner and the reason
for your conversation. But as you can see
it is the last part of the FORMula. By this
time your prospect should be comfortable
with you and be much more receptive to hearing
about your product or your business opportunity.
Throughout the conversation,
remember to use good listening skills and
give your prospect the opportunity to fill
the silent gaps. The more they talk, the
more likely they are to reveal their “hot
button” to you which will help you
show them how your business satisfies their
need. Also, if you keep your focus on helping
your team to succeed, you will naturally
succeed as a result!

Four
WAHM Perspectives
Summer Months vs. School Days When
Running a Business |
School
supplies abound in department stores; moms
are purchasing new clothes for their
grumbling kids and counting down the days
until summer ends. It’s that time of year
again – the back to school frenzy has begun.
This time of
year is chaotic for all parents, but it may
have the most impact on those who are also
trying to manage a home-based business. Most
moms say it’s easiest to run their business
while the kids are at school, but
surprisingly there are a few that embrace
the juggling act year-round.
Tami
Barker
Stayin Home
and Lovin It is a fitting name for the
business that Tami Barker, mother of two,
has found success with. Barker helps educate
others about the toxic-free products as well
as the Wellness Company that carries them.
Working out of her Washington home, she is
truly “lovin” life as a work-at-home-mom
(WAHM).
Barker, who
runs her business primarily by phone,
explains that she finds it easy to run her
business during the school season. “My kids
are older, so it’s easier during school
months when they are gone most of the day.
During the summer I like to spend as much
time as possible with them having fun,
although I do still have some business hours."
"My
business is very flexible, so even during
the school year I can be the one that takes
my kids to sports and after school
activities. I also have the flexibility to
go on field trips and help out in the
classroom when I can. I always have my
calendar by my side to prevent any conflicts
with my personal and business schedules."
Lorie
Kelley
When
asked whether running her business goes
smoother during summer months or the school
season, Lorie Kelley, feels it’s about the
same for her year-round. The mother of two
children says, “When you have your own
business, you make your own hours. I just
change my schedule to fit my lifestyle.”
Kelley, whose home business is run from her
West Virginia residence, works as a travel
agent through Coastal Families Worldwide.
Despite homeschooling her children, she has
built her business up to a place where it
can support her family when necessary.
Kelley states, “My husband had no work one
winter. I was just 5 months into the
business, but I was making enough to support
us! I thank God for what he has done for my
family!”
Gina
Neef
Eco-friendly business mom, Gina Neef, agrees
that running a business during the school
year is as equally demanding as in the
summer-time. Neef is an Executive Director
with The MOM Team™ whose two children both
attend public school. “When they are in
school running my business is a little
easier,” Neef says, “but I do manage both
well.
Neef’s business, which she runs mostly
online and over the phone from her Texas
home, takes plenty of planning ahead of time
to make the balancing act of business vs.
family work. “I schedule time with my kids
and don’t take calls at certain times of the
day. I schedule my time well and have great
support from my husband,” says Neef.
Diana Ennen
Florida-based mom Diana Ennen has worked
from home for over twenty years. This
experienced WAHM finds the summer months
much more difficult in terms of running her
business. “My business is much easier to run
during the school year.” she states, “ In
fact, even when summer camp is in session,
it's still more difficult in the summer.”
“As I'm working primarily on the computer,
they can't see how busy I am at times. For
example, I might be in the middle of a huge
publicity blitz for a client who got
national recognition and I need to spread
the word, but my kids just see me typing.
They interrupt and I lose the focus that I
had. As a writer it's tough, too, because I
could be really into writing a press release
or something for a book I'm working on and
then they come in and interrupt, I again
lose my train of thought and often never get
it back.”
“You feel like you need to entertain your
kids during the summer. Even though I plan
ahead and have lots of activities, crafts,
etc., they still get bored. It's hard for me
to focus on getting work done during the
summer months.”

Recipe FRENCH TOAST BAKE |
5 eggs lightly beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup half & half
2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
6-8 slices french bread (cut into bite sized
cubes)
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup brown sugar
3 Tbsp. maple syrup
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
4 oz. cream cheese (optional)
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk,
cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Dunk bread
cubes into egg mixture and place in a lightly
greased (or sprayed) 9x13 baking dish. Refrigerate
overnight.
In the morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Spoon cream cheese here and there over the
top of the bread cubes (about 1/2 tsp. each
drop). In a small bowl combine butter, sugar,
maple syrup and nuts. Drizzle mixture over
the top of dish. Bake until golden brown
- about 45 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes
or so before serving. Excellent!!!
* You can also spoon 1/2 tsp. of orange
marmelade (or your favorite jam) here and
there on this dish (like the cream cheese).
YUM!

Display your family's magnetic
personalities on your own fridge, or make
a giftset for friends and relatives.

MATERIALS:
2 sheets of black tissue paper
Papier-mâché paste (click link for
Family Fun's recipe)
Prismatic silver wrapping paper (available
at discount or card stores)
Time needed:
Afternoon or Evening
1.
Use scissors to cut the tissue into strips
that are about 2 by 10 inches. Tip: Fold
each sheet in half lengthwise twice and cut
2-inch strips starting at the fold. Then cut
each strip in half so it's about 10 inches
long. Using a paintbrush, cover the sphere
with paste. Apply overlapping strips
vertically, as shown. No need to let this
layer dry before proceeding.
2.
Cut the wrapping paper into 2-inch squares.
Use small amounts of paste to apply squares
first around the center, as shown, then in
rows above and below the center.

Book
I
LOVE to read! Each week you'll find
a new Christian book here! |

Hot
Tropics and Cold Feet
by Diann
Hunt
Lily and her
friends are getting away. They head to Florida
to try to help Lily calm her pre-wedding
fears. While there, they begin to feel young
again while doing some crazy stunts like
getting henna tattoos and stalking Donny
Osmond.
As they open up to each
other, they find that they each have issues
in their lives that they need to confront.
But the central plot revolves around Lily
and whether or not her wedding will actually
take place.
Baby-boomers will love this
book as it deals with situations that may
indeed be finding themselves in. I have
to admit that as I began this novel, I related
more to the attitudes of the adult children
of the characters. I honestly wasn't even
sure who Donny Osmond was or why the characters
would want to stalk him!
However, as I read more
I began to empathize with Lily, and with
what each character was going through. While
the book is written using "mature"
(is that another word for middle-aged?)
characters, the themes are universal.
Diann Hunt pens a funny,
touching real-to-life story. Maturing fans
of chick-lit will love the humor and "girliness"
of her characters. The book covers serious
topics and yet Hunt is able to use humor
to give us each a glimpse at our own attitudes
- either through the main characters...
or their children.
