15 Minutes For Mom

Here is another time saving tip. And this tip is a win/win situation. It saves you time but it helps you teach your child(ren) to read at the same time!

Labels, labels, labels. Label things in your children's room as they learn to name them. Have fun while they learn that written words are connected to everyday things.

Visit the Articles section on CWAHM.com for great time-savings tips and back-to-school ideas!

Scheduling for CWAHMs

What's your schedule look like these days? I'm still adjusting to having my daughter at school and just my 2 year-old home with me. He craves a lot of attention, so I must admit I'm getting a lot less done than usual. But, of course, he is one of the main reasons that I work from home. So, the juggling act continues.

Do any of you have great tips for working with small kids around? I'd love to hear them and I'll share them in next week's newsletter. Email your tips to me at jill@cwahm.com.

In His Love,
Jill

Have prayer requests? We'd love for you to share them with the CWAHM Prayer Team.

CWAHM Monthly Devotional
 by Jill Hart

September 2007

"Me nice!" my son exclaimed. "Then show me how nice you can be," I responded. I looked down at my two year-old who was now grinning from ear to ear. The smile was to convince me of what a nice boy he could be...and that he deserved the cookie he had asked for. It was also an attempt to gloss over the fact that he'd just hit his sister, run down the aisle of the store yelling and then thrown his toy car under the cart on the way back - all while evading my grasp.

I had him corralled in the cart now and was debating whether or not I should try to use the cookie to bribe him so that I could finish placing the order for new blinds. What I really desired was for him to listen to me. Well, not just listen - to do what I asked of him. I'm not sure even a cookie could accomplish that.

Why is it that our children seem to hear what we say and yet often fail to obey? Is it our human nature that causes the blockage between our ears and our actions? We know that we are all sinners (Rom. 3:23). From the beginning of humanity we've listened to God, but never fully obeyed Him. Think of Adam and Eve in the Garden. Neither of them were able to withstand the devil's temptation. Doing what we desire, instead of what we know to be right, is just too easy.

Take some time this month to talk with the Lord about your life. Ask Him to show you any areas in your life where you may be listening, but not doing. I know that I, like my son, , want to believe "me nice," but when it comes right down to it, I'm like the apostle Paul describes himself in 1 Timothy 1:15, "Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst."

"But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves."
James 1:22 (New Living Translation)

* I just love customer service. I think that building a relationship with your customer is key. My favorite thing to do is deliver products to there doorstep in a timely fashion ! I love saying , " I have it right here" "Let me bring it over" or "its in the mail today!" I truley believe that follow up is KEY, when they know you care about them and want to know how they are liking what they purchased from you , they get something so much more valuable than what they can get at Walmart!

* I join groups and forums catering to my art... believe it or not, even though you give a bunch of artists the same materials... no one ever DOES it the same. I've sold my stuff to fellow artists... that is where my sig with links on all posting on every post I make.

I also have a blog. This is where I tell everyone to check first. I alsways dump my art there before listing it on ebay or etsy. Many items never make it to etsy or ebay... suits me just fine!

In etsy, I have an announcement page. This lets folks know HOW I use the money I make (right now it is for setting up the Rebekah Lynne heart fund)... because my baby will have open heart surgery later this year.... but if you are just making money "because" you can tell folks what you are working on and take suggestions. Nothing like asking the buying public what they WILL spend their money on!

Topsy Turvy Devotionals, Devos for Kids!
Back to School

by Donna J. Shepherd

Read Job 31:4 NLT:

Doesn’t he see everything I do and every step I take?

My family moved right before I entered second grade. I didn’t want to change schools. I might get lost in a different school building. Would I make friends? Would my new teacher be nice?

Soon it will be time for the school year to begin. Maybe you feel like I did – a little scared.

Do you know you can pray for your teacher, your new classmates, and even your principal, now? That seems topsy-turvy to pray for people you haven’t even met yet, doesn’t it?

But we can pray like this because the Bible tells us God knows everything (1 John 3:20). He knows the past, present and future. He already knows who your teacher will be, the friends you’ll make, and will be with you every step of the way.

Psalm 37:23 says, “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

When you feel afraid, remember – God loves you and is right there with you. He knows all about you.

Topsy Turvy Tip: Nothing that happens in your life will ever surprise God.

Life without Christ is Topsy Turvy!™.

Featured Craft
Pencil Toppers

Learn about the process of papermaking -- an art that dates back more than 4,000 years -- with this step-by-step project that recycles pieces of ordinary paper into a decorative catchall for your desk or bureau.

MATERIALS:
Construction paper (2 sheets of the same color and several sheets in varying colors)
1 sheet of newspaper
Blender
Warm water
Colander and pan
Paper towels
Vegetable oil
Round kitchen sieve (ours was 6 inches in diameter)
Large bowl

Time needed:
  Weekend Project

1. Tear the 2 sheets of same-colored construction paper and the newspaper into 1-inch squares. Put all the pieces in a blender, then fill it three quarters full with warm water. Blend the ingredients on medium speed for a few minutes or until it forms a pulpy mixture, also known as slurry.

2. Set the colander over the pan, then pour in the slurry. Let it drain for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, use a paper towel to apply a light coating of vegetable oil to the inside of a round kitchen sieve. This will help the finished paper bowl come off the screen more easily.

3. Tear the remaining construction paper into small pieces for decorating the outside of the bowl. Dip each piece in water, then place it along the inside of the sieve.

4. With your fingers, scoop and mold a thick, even layer of slurry along the inside of the sieve, covering the decorative paper pattern. Gently press the slurry against the sieve to squeeze out any excess water. If you like, place a few more decorative pieces of construction paper along the inside of the bowl. Set the sieve over a large bowl to dry completely (about 48 hours), then carefully remove the paper bowl from the sieve.

Featured Book

I LOVE to read!
Each week you'll find a new Christian book here!

The Grand Weaver
by Ravi Zacharias

This is a beautifully written book that reflects on some of the subtleties of God’s divine plan for our lives. In The Grand Weaver, Zacharias elaborates on the intricate technique of weaving. Each delicate strand represents an event that has taken place in our lives, which eventually form a masterpiece of tapestry. The Lord’s grandeur plan involves every aspect of our lives, from our DNA to our disappointments. God has a destiny that He wants to fulfill in all of His people. The Grand Weaver has created such an exquisite piece of fine art that it becomes irresistible to the longing soul.

Zacharias constructed this magnum opus with the word of God as his pattern. He used realistic stories and famous quotes to adorn his embroidery. Some of which were his personal tribulations and triumphs. Poetic sequins ornamented the pages of The Grand Weaver. The reader is left in awe as he, or she ponders the significance of how we are fashioned through the experiences of our lives.

The filaments of our lives are not merely a tousled mess, but hand woven and arranged with a specific purpose by the designer of life itself, “The Grand Weaver”.
