15
Minutes For Mom
Aromatherapy
can be a great way to relieve stress and
relax. Aromatherapy is the use of oils to
provide mental, spiritual and even physical
healing.
You can use
aromatherapy oils in many different ways
such as candles, fragrances, baths/showers,
lotions, etc. It is the aroma essence that
provides you with a calm, soothing and
relaxed state which in turn helps reduce
stress. And as moms we all need to reduce
our stress at some point in time!
Visit the Articles
section on CWAHM.com for great time-savings
tips and back-to-school ideas!

Craft
Fairs and Carnivals
No one told
me school life was so involved. I don't
remember having homework in kindergarten.
Granted, it's only a few nights a week and
it's not hard, but still....We've already
had PTA meetings, a carnival, grandparents
night, skating night, etc. Even the list
exhausts me. Next on the agenda is a craft
fair. I can't figure out how these moms
do it. I can't keep it all straight. I need
a calendar for school events alone. What
in the world will I do when I have two
children in school?
I was so worried
when Katy started school last month. Worried
about the influences, worried about her
finding Christian friends, worried that
I was a lousy mom because I was sending
her off into the big, wide world already.
And yet, amidst
the busyness, despite my worrying, God answered
my prayers. He provided a good friend for
my daughter in her new Sunday School class.
This little girl is also in Katy's kindergarten
class and she is now officially Katy's best
friend...at least for this week. God is
good...so much more than we deserve!
My prayer this
month is that each of you will see Him working
in your life, answering your prayers. I'd
love for you to share any answered prayers
with me that I can pass on in next week's
newsletter. What an encouragement to know
that He cares for each of us deeply and
individually....we are truly princesses....daughters
of the King of Kings!
In His Love,
Jill
WORKING
AT HOME WITH KIDS
A couple
of weeks ago I asked for tips on working
at home with small kids around. Thank you
all for your responses! Here is the first
that I'd like to share:
I,
like Jill, have a 2 yr old at home. I also
have two in school. My daughter loves to
be in my office with me while I am working
on my SeneGence Business. She has a little
table and chairs in her room so we drag
it in the office and set up colors, playdough,
etc. and she works too!
Sometimes
shes at my feet pampering me with lotions
and polish as I send out emails. Its actually
very relaxing. She helps me deliver products
to my customers and is great support!
About
1:00 after lunch we jump in bed for story
time and a quick nap before we are off to
get big brothers from school.
Making
her feel like shes doing big girl things
keeps her occupied!

One of the best things I've done for my
business is to bring my digital
camera to my parties. I snap pictures of
everyone there and then after
the party, I upload them to a photo sharing
website where I can send the
party hostess a link for her to view, print
and send on the photos to
the other guests. I often get guests asking
to get copies of the
pictures too, so they'll give me their name
and email address and it's
natural for me to say "Do you want me to add
you to my mailing list
too?" at that point. The picture sharing is
a great way to stay in
contact with your hostess and her guests in
a non-salesy way. Plus it's
FREE to you and them, so all it costs you is
a little time.

Practical Parenting for Weary
WAHMs
by Jill Hart |
There are many nights that I
lay awake long after my husband begins
snoring lightly beside me. My mind whirls as
I think of all the ways I’ve failed that
day. Phone calls and emails that didn’t get
returned; laundry that didn’t make it from
the basket to the drawers; and worse yet
time I could have spent with the kids that I
whittled away working or collapsed in a
chair trying to catch my breath.
How do we find the time to be a great parent
amidst the chaos? The answer: we must
realize we can’t do it all. As work-at-home
moms, we need to relax and strive not for
perfection, but for doing our best despite
the circumstances. We need to strive to be
parents who are:
Playful – Motherhood is a job that most of
us take very seriously. However, the
day-to-day life of a mom can be full of joy,
laughter and fun as well. As moms, we set
the tone for our household. When we have a
positive attitude anything can be fun, even
teaching times such as helping with
homework.
My daughter began kindergarten recently. She
now has homework to complete a few evenings
each week. She is learning to read and
become frustrated when she can’t figure out
a word. I’m learning that by being patient
with her, allowing her to express her
frustration (in a calm manner) and
encouraging her when she succeeds, even
homework can be enjoyable time spent with
her. Whenever possible, we turn homework
into a game and have fun learning together.
Prayerful – The greatest part of a healthy
prayer life is seeing God answer your
prayers and sharing these experiences with
your children. Answered prayer is a powerful
spiritual teacher in the life of a child.
Jane Evans, author of Raising Children
Without Going Insane, explains it well.
"When you are lost and can’t find your way,
stop and pray and ask God to help you. Teach
your children the power of prayer in
everyday situations…even you may be
surprised, as I have many times, at the way
God answers when you call!"
Purposeful – When working
from home it’s important to take the time to
teach our children about the Lord whenever
the opportunity arises. When talking with
your child, there are many subjects that
will come up that will give you an opening
to teach them about God
For example, this past summer
my daughter, Katy, was having trouble with
two of the neighbor girls. They had gone
into their backyard and told my daughter
that she couldn’t come in and they didn’t
want to play with her. Seeing the hurt in my
daughter’s eyes was hard, but I knew it was
important to try to teach her about
forgiveness and loving others.
Even at five years of age,
Katy was able to understand that just as God
loves us despite our failings, we are to
love others when they hurt us. We also
talked about choosing friends wisely and I
explained that once school started she would
have the opportunity to make new friends. We
chatted about my experiences with friends
and how God brings people into our lives for
a reason – sometimes, like this instance, it
may be to learn forgiveness. It turned into
a great conversation and I’m pretty sure I
learned as much from it as she did.
Motherhood is a twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week profession. There are no
days off, very few coffee breaks and even
fewer accolades. Despite this, we can choose
to have a good attitude and make the most of
each moment. By being moms that are playful,
prayerful and purposeful, we’ll set a great
example for our children. I think my kids
may be picking up on my positive attitude. I
overheard my two-year old talking to his
daddy last night about his day. I could hear
the smile in his voice as he summed it up,
“Me happy. Mommy happy.”
Whatever you do, work at it with all your
heart, as working for the Lord, not for men…Colossians

Book
I
LOVE to read! Each week you'll find
a new Christian book here! |

Lost in Translation: How
Men and Women Can Understand Each Other
by Dr. Steve Stephens
Marriage is
hard. Every person has expectations of what
life will be like after they’re married, but
rarely is reality even close to the dream.
This leads to disappointment,
disillusionment, and many times divorce.
So, how can
we avoid divorce court? Is there any way to
find a middle ground in marriage? Dr. Steve
Stephens’s newest book, Lost in Translation,
attempts to bring both mean and women to an
understanding of each other and help them to
find this middle ground. Stephens is a
licensed psychologist and a marriage and
family therapist. He has been counseling
couples, as well as individuals, for over
twenty-five years and has written more than
twenty books.
Lost in
Translation covers topics of interest to
both husbands and wives such as the
differences in how men and women think,
communicate and interpret each other’s words
and actions. Stephens gives examples of
questions and issues he’s heard from couples
throughout the years. He also shares his own
experiences and guides couples in how they
can better understand one another.
This book is great because the chapters are
short and could easily be read by a couple
together. At the end of each chapter,
Stephens gives a summary and discussion
questions. I was also impressed by the
practicality of the topics, one of which is
struggles in the bedroom that many Christian
couples need to discuss, but are embarrassed
to do. This book is a down-to-earth,
tell-it-like-it-is, look at marriage.
