I have several Facebook pages for all of my businesses and I manage many for my clients.

Though I think it's important to be on Facebook and have a presence, I also think that you need to be cautious not to use FB as your business page or count too heavily on it. USE it - but don't rely solely on it. Facebook isn't as friendly to small businesses as it could be and recent rules and changes have made it more difficult for businesses to be effective on FB. I have begun recommending Twitter as a better option. You can do targeted searches and reach directly to people who are seeking the services/products you offer - and connect with them one on one. Facebook doesn't do that and won't allow you to do so.
