Being a police wife can be stressful in and of itself, of course I vowed from day one that I would not spend my life worrying and would let God protect dh, after all I have many other things to worry about and God can protect him better than I can. Now, as if being in this position is not stressful enough, for both me and dh, we are dealing with a city that doesn't like nor support the police department. The police and sheriff have been merged but are still treated, and paid, as two different departments. We have not seen a raise in three years. I am only able to be a sahm with the assistance of the part-time security jobs dh works. This is another stressful situation because dh is rarely home and when he is he's sleeping as he works nights so I feel like a married single parent most of the time. But I am willing to deal with it till we can afford for him to slack off on his jobs. I've done the math regarding my returning to work and it just wouldn't pay what he makes in part-time jobs. It's really hard when the cost of living is rising yet your pay is staying the same. Our income to bills ratio is way out of whack. But we skim by and will unless the newest threat happens. Because we are in the top five states for having the highest gas rates and because of the negativity towards the police the city is considering taking the cars away from the officers except when on duty. Doing this will also erase all part-time jobs across the board. It will not only put us and many other families in a financial crisis but will put all these companies and businesses that rely on the police to do security for them in a bind. No one will see it that way and no one will see that taking the cars away will not save the city any more money than the merger did (the merger actually cost the city more money). I'm trying really hard to be a good Christian and pray for our leaders rather than judge them but I have to admit it is difficult. As I think about the fact we could loose our home and more without the part-time unless of course I return to work full-time and if I have to I guess I will give up my joy of being a sahm to do so. I can only hope that I am able to get a job making enough money to compensate the lose. DH and I vowed tonight to pray for God's guidance not only for us but for those in charge. I also added prayer for Him to soften their hearts so they might feel the pain their actions are causing many families and our city. I fear it may do no good as these people are not Christians and do not follow God but I also know I have to leave this in God's hands because there also isn't anything I can do about myself. If you think of it could you please also keep this situation in your prayers. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I will certainly keep you in my thoughts & prayers!! You know I'd find a way to email, just what you have written here & send it to your congressman of your state. It's pretty sad when Gas prices affect your lives in this way- I don't have a car, so I don't drive, I take a bus or find another way to get errands done. But it's a thought- maybe if congress sees some of the ways gas prices are affecting the community - we can hope that they may think twice & do something about the high gas prices.
