I will be the first to admit I have yet to read through the whole Bible. :) I grew up in church and learned many different lessons from the Bible - a lot of times hearing the same lessons.

My husband and I have tried several times to make the commitment to read through the Bible and each time we tried we also got sidetracked by other things. Last year we made the commitment to read through the Bible and we also prayed to God to help us stay committed and to also give us wisdom and a clearer understanding of His Word. I've been amazed at how much I thirst to read God's Word. And have been surprised at a lot of the things I've read that I had no idea were in the Bible. God really does provide His children the answer to everything in His Word.

If you have read through the Bible, what helped you to stay committed?

I have read through the whole Bible at least twice, which is not saying much since I have been a Christian for 15 years  . I read parts of it a lot, but I need to read through the whole thing again. I think I skipped parts of the book of Numbers both times I read it also  .
One of the times I read a One Year Bible. They are divided up so you just read a part of the Old Testament and a part of the New Testament and a Psalm and Proverb each day and it is printed up that way - like a calendar - you read the March 20 portion on March 20 etc.... The one I read is a Precious Moments KJV.
That was helpful because it is all scheduled for you.

I have - I went to a Christian University, so we were required to read through it. I keep telling myself I'm going to get myself one of those Through-the-Bible -In-a-year Bibles, and read through it again, but I have yet to do so. :)

One of these day!! :)

I've been through it once, now. I picked up this awesome book a few years back for my birthday called Adventuring Through the Bible and it goes through every book of the Bible and gives background info about the culture, the context, the author(s) of that particular book. It was so much easier to read through those tough OT books when I had a better perspective, if you will. :)

I have read through the Bible back in 1993. It's one thing to read completely through the Bible & just read it as I did. It's completely another to actually read through it & take your time reading it thoroughly & and understand it as well. But it's well worth the read any day & brings us so much closer to God.

Yes I have read through the whole 3-4 times at least & I'm re-reading it again and am now ready to start Psalms again. I learn something new each I read the Bible. I love reading the Bible and so that helps me stay committed to reading it and so read it in the evening after all work & chores have been done for the day. It's a great way to relax for me.

I've read through the Bible, but it always amazes me that when I go back to reread a book, there is always something "new." Something that I never noticed or that didn't seem important last time. God is so awesome!

I've never "sat down" and read through the whole bible, however, I've read the bible. Over and over again. It is my desire to begin to memorize what God has me to do.

I remember praying for the Holy Spirit to give me the ability to memorize scripture and He did! I would read the scripture over and over and there it was, in my spirit!

You're so right, God does give you the appetite for His word, especially when you truly desire it. And it's also true that you can go back and read a chapter/book and receive new revelation knowledge everytime!

I love it!

Blessings for continued success!

This is my first year to get to March and still be on track reading. I struggle through the Old Testament, especially the laws and temple building chapters. My crazy dh (the statistics geek) loves those sections. :? Got stuck on how to cleanse lepers for days because I didn't want to read about it.

I'm currently reading a Year-through-the-Bible but this one is done chronologically! I'm really enjoying it because it puts the events in a time perspective. Because there are multiple books that cover the same material, it can get a tiny bit repetitive but I figure that just gives me the chance to make sure I'm paying attention!

Blessings,

I have read through the whole Bible and rereading it for the second time. I skip the begats and measurements, but Jabez is in the middle of the begats (1 Chronicles 4:9-10), and he is an interesting character. In fact, there is a quick-read book, "The Prayer of Jabez," by Bruce Wilkenson. Although I have faith, it taught me how to have more faith.

I read the Bible like a book from the beginning to the end. I don't skip around from one book to another. I made a commitment to read at least one chapter every morning before opening up my home office.

Yes, I've read through the Bible at least 3 times. I have a read-in-a-year Bible (NLT) and I read the day's reading before I go to bed.

I highly recommend a couple of books that help understand the OT and NT: Discovering the New Testament and Discovering the Old Testament. Both are easy reads. Douglas Stewart also has a couple of books on reading the Bible which are very good.

When you understand the history and how everything interconnects, who was alive when others were alive and the chronology of events, it make Bible reading more rich and intreging.

Thanks MaryAnn for those tips. I will look into those.

I have never made it thru the whole Bible, I think this would help me.

HUGE Blessings to you.

Is everyone still reading regularly?

I have gone in fits and starts since this thread started and I still haven't quite finished the whole thing yet, but I'm close and it finallly became a habit this year. Better late than never!

Thought I'd update this thread to see who accomplished this from the original group. Of course, I didn't check to see if there is a new thread for Bible reading. I'll go see after I finish this.

I did finish sometime late last year started over again but in chronological order this time, so I'm jumping around a lot. You?
