My girls are in their second week of spring break. Just this last Tuesday we finally got into gear with keeping up their studies.

On a traditional school day we spend about 30 mintues on reading and math homework.

Now we are spending a little less than 3 hours at the dining room table doing worksheets, workbooks, sight word flash cards, reading beginner books, even having recess! This is fun, but it is a lot more involved than I thought it would be.

I love seeing my kids learn!

Wow, that is rewarding.

They are only 6 and nearly 5 (she'll turn 5 this Sunday!) and I obviously know more than they do so I feel confident teaching them.

We will do this over summer break, too, which will be all of June and the first 3 weeks of July (they have a modified school year with several 2-week breaks from July to May).

I fear that one day they will be asking me things I don't know the answer to (like advanced math, physics, etc.)

How do you approach junior-high and high-school level subjects that overwhelm you?

Thanks, everyone!!

Our 9th grader has study groups, they are conducted by teachers in that subject. He's also had a math tutor for Algebra and Geometry.

In our area, our public library offers free online tutor service. We have used it for English, essay writing and math. It's a terrific and helpful service.
